I’ve been a journalist since I was 16, working for the biggest names in news and entertainment: The Detroit Free Press (my hometown newspaper), The Charlotte Observer, and The Washington Post.

I was also an early internet pioneer. I founded washingtonpost.com in 1995 and served as founding content vice president at BET.com in 1999. Plenty of colleagues back then were skeptical of the move online — most couldn’t picture the internet ever becoming what it is today.

The biggest potential of online, to me, has always been the ability to tell and show interesting stories, and to take people back in time to understand their present.

Along the way, I noticed a gap: genealogy firms are excellent at document discovery, but storytelling is largely left on the table. That gap is what sparked AncestoriesXR — a way to bring your family stories to life using immersive media.

Welcome to the journey. I’m glad you’re here.
